Art in the Heart of the City, Ithaca NY













Mother, is based on themes of emergence, shelter and symbols. The taut strung sapling structure lifts and holds a sacred enclosure. Within this space lays a spiral of silver-gray Ithaca shale. The saplings will form a woven interlocked pattern that is both decorative and powerfully functional. An overlying cover of cement with
incised imagery bases and solidifies the apparently insubstantial sapling structure. There is an intended contrast between mass and structure.
